Starigrad Palenika

We’d had a lovely week in Split, but it was time to head northwards. Taking the motorway out of Split, we headed for Zadar, famous for its sea organ. We’ve heard all about this from various blogs (including our daughter’s), and seen clips on You Tube, so we weren’t overly fussed about going, but as we were passing Zadar we thought we’d stop by and check it out.

The car park I’d seen on Google Maps was full, but we managed to find two on-street parking spaces and bought two tickets for a couple of hours. Zadar is a nice old town situated on an island, much of which is pedestrianised. We walked through the old stone lanes and along the seafront on the other side to the sea organ. Although I was prepared to be quite underwhelmed, I actually enjoyed sitting there listening to the sounds it made, and it was a lot louder than I had expected.

Once we were done it was back to the van and we headed off to our stop for the night at Autokamp Peros, another ACSI discount scheme campsite. It was a nice enough site, and we had planned to stay for a few days, but there was some rather noisy building demolition work going on opposite the site, so this morning we moved along the coast a bit to Starigrad Palenika. It’s another ACSI site, and we’re parked up right by the beach overlooking the Adriatic, with the waves gently lapping in just 10 metres away. It’s lovely! The lady told us that in high season the pitch we’re on costs €100 per night, and we’re just paying €17 – we just love this ACSI scheme. We’ll be staying here for about a week now, until we move up to Krk. When we’re not chilling out, we’ll be going for walks along the coast, and I’ll get my bike out for a ride or two.

Just for a bit of fun… we were in Lidl and I was looking for some hot smoked paprika, but the only paprika I could find was this one:

I fired up Google Translate on my phone and had a big shock when I got as far as slatka zači – if you copy and paste this into Google Translate then you’ll see what I saw (it’s a bit rude, so don’t try this if you’re easily offended!).
