Cascante

Today we moved on to a town called Cascante, about an hour and a half’s drive south of Logroño. The weather has been glorious, with clear blue skies and temperatures of 16° – the first decent weather we’ve had since setting off on our travels.

We stopped off at a small pueblo called Rincón de Soto to buy some food shopping, and after enjoying a coffee sat outdoors in the sunshine, we continued our journey to Cascante.

It’s a free aire tonight in the car park of the sports centre, about 15 minutes walk to the Casco Antiguo. It’s very well situated at quite high altitude, so the views from the park at the top are amazing. It’s also home to the 17th century church, the Basílica de Nuestra Señora Romana.

Great view from the top!

We went for a wander into town and started chatting with an old boy who was telling us where we needed to go. He took us into one of the bars which was still open and introduced us to the barman for a much needed drink.

Tonight we will go back into the old town to enjoy the illuminated Basílica, and find a bar where we can read our books over a glass of wine.
